I wanted a Stingray when I was a kid.

I finally got my hands on one while staying at Grand Bahia Principe La Romana.

We had a terrific family reunion going at the resort. Everyone got a message that we were to gather in the lobby at 6:00 a.m. for an adventure. Bring sunblock & a swimsuit.

Seriously, 6:30 a.m. when I’m on vacation?

bahia-travel-experts-catamaranWe were shuttled to Playa Cabeza de Toro and got a safety briefing. Then it was all-aboard a dual deck catamaran. Then the fun busted out!

A super friendly Captain and Crew served up drinks and fresh tropical fruit. You enjoy coastal views and there’s even a small section of transparent glass to view underwater life.

We got to a protected marine park called the Marinarium.   The crew provides and helps you into snorkeling gear. Then it’s time to jump in the water and explore.

The coral reefs are amazing. There are nurse sharks which means you won’t need a doctor because they do not feast on humans. But here’s the best part.

We were able to pet a Stingray.

Later we are back on the catamaran snacking on yummy sandwiches and sipping cool drinks. We stopped at a really calm and shallow swimming cove in Bavaro.

The crew played Reggae music and we were able to bust a move in the water with drinks in hand.

The ride back featured coffee and cookies. We played some fun trivia games. Some of us even learned some traditional Dominican dances.  Then it was back to Grand Bahia Principe La Romana.

Some of our party when to La Orquidea for the fabulous buffet. Others had reservations at Le Gourmet, Il Capriccio or El Pescador.

A few of us grabbed some hot food and cold drinks at Las Olas. It’s a snack bar near the beach. We relaxed on recliners by the water chatting about our day and looking at some cool photos I shot with a disposable underwater camera I brought.

The rest of the night was dancing, karaoke or listening to live entertainment in the bar. Others got comfy in their rooms and had refreshments on their balcony.   It was just another memorable day at Grand Bahia Principe La Romana.

And I finally got my hands on a Stingray!
